Coach Lester Mayo – The founder of Ahead Of The Game Academy Nation LLC. and CEO of Ahead Of The Game Academy Inc. was born and raised in San Diego, California. Lester, was a young man with a big imagination who grew up playing outside with many friends from diverse backgrounds around his city and town. They shared many ideas which helped each other grow to become successful in many endeavors.
Lester is culturally / diversely educated through many friends from different ethnic backgrounds within his community. This is while learning perspective from different cultural backgrounds, which has adapted to his character today. He originally started chasing his goals, dreams and vision of becoming a professional athlete [NBA Player] back at Paradise Hills Recreation Center in the winter of 2000. He was coached by many great coaches like Coach Jessica, Victoria Bonner, Erika Meza, Coach Mike, Coach Austin, Joe “Coach Jose” Plascencia, Jim Brown, and was challenged by Coach Fred and the Paradise Hills Hornets / Celtics who not only taught him the game of basketball, but about life as well. They have challenged Lester in many ways, which has made him try to be the best he can possibly be today.
He is also a fitness instructor at Sandburg Elementary School and also a subcontractor for i9 Sports – San Diego, who has a specialty & knowledge in Football, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball and Lacrosse. He was recently promoted to i9 Sports basketball program director in early 2020. His coaching talents and gifts were discovered in 2015 by his younger childhood friend and Morse High School Triple Jump / Long Jump All-Time Record holder, Travis Johnson. Travis referred Lester to Co-Owner Bill SixSmith, and began coaching kids in not only basketball, but flag football, Lacrosse, Soccer, and Baseball as well.
Lester also specializes in Track And Field, and does personal training now through Ahead Of The Game Academy Nation LLC and Ahead Of The Game Academy Inc. This deals with workouts that emphasize strength, conditioning, speed and longevity. Lester is very grateful for everyone’s presence who supported him in his life, and is looking to reach higher levels of success progressively, while trying to give back hope and encouragement to those in need. He is extremely thankful and wants to put all his effort and energy in uplifting his community.
Lester Mayo is also a triathlete from the graduating class of 2008 at University City High School. He won Booster Athlete Of The Year and Army Athlete of the year in 2008 despite dealing with an injury that set him back and made him sad due to the circumstances of the situation the injury happened in. Although he hasn’t received the exposure he feels he deserves, Lester is still staying eager by keeping his goals, dream, and vision alive by going to many NBA G League workouts, and plans to play professional basketball. He has a vision of becoming either a professional football or basketball coach in the near future, but for now he is passing the knowledge down to the youth in the community as a coach, teacher, athlete, lecturer, musician and counselor.
Lester Mayo is also a CIF – SD and League Champion, and also has a Bachelors Degree of Arts in Communication Studies from CSUN [Class of 2017]. He wants to help guide and lead the youth into the right direction to become future successors.
Lester Mayo suffered a traumatic injury his senior year playing Varsity Football, which set him back from getting exposure to the game of basketball due to missing his senior year as a starting combo guard in 2008 at University City High. He became really depressed, but ended up finding ways to not give up on his dreams, goals, and visions after having to start over. He ended up dropping out of San Diego State University where he planned to walk on as a point guard for the basketball team then went to Southwestern College to study music and communication despite getting academically disqualified with a 0.7 GPA. He contemplated joining the military service, but chose to refocus on his studies and schools.
Thankfully it was blessing in disguise which helped him become a Music Producer, Musician, Coach, Teacher and Athlete while still chasing his dream of becoming a professional athlete. This is despite the setback that had taken place during a crucial point in his life. Lester is now 31 years old, and a newly founded business owner after imagining the foundation of Ahead Of The Game Academy Nation LLC. He recently came up with the SD Outdoor Basketball League, which is sponsored by the Ahead Of the Game Academy Nation LLC, and strives to give exposure to those people who feel like they have something to prove, yet also helping those who may have been undiscovered in their endeavors, dreams, ambitions, and visions. He is looking to support those aspects only because he felt the empathy and sympathy in dealing with situations that connect to many players who deal with the same issue. He has not given up and has expanded his horizons , while looking to do more, yet being more involved in his community. As of March 16, 2021 Lester Mayo became the owner of the Oceanside Geniuses, a new ABA team and organization set to debut in November 2021.
